Each student will study a community development or international development agency. The study will include a comprehensive review of their web presence and an interview with a staff member or regular volunteer. The final paper will have two sections: (1) Report containing a detailed description of the organization, incorporating data from the web review and interview and (2) Analysis of the organization’s approach to addressing poverty, including the student’s evaluation of the effectiveness of the organization and recommendations for how the organization could improve. The student should consider it a major term paper with a maximum word count of 2500 words. This paper is worth 30% of the final course grade. Other elements we’ll be looking for in this paper – Your papers should: Integrate theories and principles shared throughout this course, reflected in your analysis of the organization’s approach to addressing poverty to assess the organization’s effectiveness and improvement areas. Be well structured, citing sources (from course readings, instructional content and media), and uses your own voice for a clear and concise reflection on the organization. Two important points of note: While the original description of the assignment had no word count, we kindly ask that you try to keep the maximum length of your papers to 2,500 words. If your organization has limited to no web presence, you’re welcome to review other existing resources or conduct other interviews to garner a deeper understanding to the organizations response to poverty.
