Writing evaluation reports, whether an initial or reevaluation, is a technical process which is guided by federal and state regulations to ensure valid, reliable, and ethical Special Education practices. Special Education professionals need to have a comprehensive understanding of federal and state guidelines to ensure that they are including the required information needs in each section of the report. As regulations and student needs continue to change and evolve, Special Education professionals need to stay current, and know how to continuously stay up-to-date on best practices related to evaluation practices.
For this Discussion, you will examine an evaluation report for a student at The Northgate School and discuss strengths and areas needing improvement you identify in the report with your colleagues.
Mateo’s Report is attached a file.
Post a response to the following:
What were the strengths of this report? What areas need improvement? Explain, with a rationale to support your thoughts, whether you think the information regarding the language and culture was valid, reliable, and ethical.
What recommendations, supported by research, would you make for adjustment to items in this report?
Based on the identified needs in the report, what assessment tools would you, as the special educator, use to monitor Mateo’s skills in the classroom?
What are the most appropriate evidence-based tools you would use to monitor progress based on the identified needs in the report?
