What goals are you recommending for the organization? (What do you want?)

While not exactly what we’d call an exam, our “final’ is an exercise where you will put together the major concepts you have learned in the course, combining them in a single document. This is structured as a “consultant’s report” where you as the consultant are recommending to a specific sports entity the strategy that you propose to keep that entity economically healthy and successful for the next ten years. You will use your knowledge of economic principles, competitive balance, labor markets, economic impact etc. to recommend major policies that will help your client’s organization thrive over the next ten years. Instructions:  Your work should take the form of a report to the commissioner or governing body of that entity.  It should be as detailed as necessary with no minimum or maximum length.  Choose the entity you will report to from the following list: Your choices are to report to the governing authorities of (choose one): o Major League Baseball o The National Football League o The National Basketball Association o The English Premier League o The National Collegiate Athletic Association o The International Olympic Committee If you wish to propose a different organization, you must clear your choice with the instructor in advance (examples might be the NHL, MLS, NAIA, USOC, etc.)  You must submit a written document that addresses the following questions for the chosen organization: 1. What goals are you recommending for the organization? (What do you want?) 2. What benefits will be derived? (Why do you want it?) 3. What are the obstacles to be overcome? (Why don’t you have it yet?) 4. What actions are recommended? (What are you willing to do to get it?) Requirements:  Your paper should be a report that presents and defends your decision.  It should have a clear introduction, thesis, body, and conclusion.  Focus on quality, as opposed to length.  You should have clear transitions between paragraphs and include a minimum of ten APA references to help reinforce the basis for your position  The paper’s anticipated length should be at least 5 pages, with more thorough and thoughtful work extending beyond that guideline. It is not expected that the paper would exceed 12 pages in length.  A supporting summary presentation, such as a brief PowerPoint, is encouraged but not required.
