Purpose Critical analysis of AI-generated outputs is a crucial skill as it enables you to evaluate, interpret, and make informed judgments about the quality of AI systems, helping you to develop a deeper understanding of the technology and its limitations. This activity is designed to assist you in developing effective critical analysis strategies to help you in your academic research. Note : At first we suppose to use AI but now it was requested to write the own crirtics. Need 4 peer review references Task Details Analyse and critique an AI-generated essay explaining how visual elements convey the message of a book of your choice. Choose and read one of the following picture books: (1) Eat My Dust by Neridah McMullin 2023 (2) How To Move a Zoo by Kate Simpson 2024 ( My choice) (3) The Garden of Broken Things by Freya Blackwood 2024 As part of this assessment, you’re required to: • Use an AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc…) and prompt it to write an 800-word essay explaining how visual elements convey the message of the book using specific images from the book and support from academic research and the class readings. • Critique the AI-created essay, pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the points raised. • Look specifically at the images that the AI tool uses as examples, analyse them, and justify whether the points are valid. • Support those ideas with evidence from our class readings and your own outside research (Minimum of 4 references). • Include the prompt you used and the AI-generated essay. Step 1: Task Understanding • Read the Instructions and Checklist carefully. • Read the Guide: Rubrics (in Cadmus Manual) and then your Marking Rubric. Step 2: Select Book • Consider each picture book from the provided list. • Choose ONE book that you are interested in. Step 3: Initial Reading • Access the assigned texts and select the one you’d like to focus on. • Survey, skim and scan the text and images to find: o Topic: What is the topic? o Main ideas: What are the main ideas? o Interrelationship: What is the interrelationship of words and pictures in the text? o Links: What are some links to the unit content? o Techniques: What are some techniques used to elicit a response from a reader-viewer or encourage them to read-view in particular ways? • Take notes of your initial findings. Step 4: Generate AI Text • Using an AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.…), prompting it to write an 800-word essay explaining how visual elements convey the message of the book using specific images from the book, as well as support from academic research and the class readings. • Copy the prompt you used and paste it into your workspace in Cadmus. • Copy the AI-generated essay and paste it into your workspace in Cadmus. • Remember: include the prompt you used and the AI-generated essay in your final submission. Step 5: AI-Generated Text Review • Consider the first response that the AI generates. • Survey, skim and scan the generated text to find: o Main ideas: What are the main ideas or arguments in the text? Does it respond to the assessment task? o Quality: What is the quality of the text like? Does the elaboration and connection between sentences make sense? • Take notes of your initial findings. Step 6: Critical Reading Read the AI-created essay and critique it, pointing out the strengths and weaknesses of the points raised. • Read both the book and the generated text, this time critically. o Look specifically at the images that the AI tool uses as examples. • Take detailed notes on: o Evidence: Look for evidence to support any ideas made in the text. If the text is making an argument, are there any reasons or evidence to support it? Does it include references that are easily found online? o Reliability: If the information seems questionable, can you double-check it against another source? o Context: Consider the audience, purpose, and setting of the text you are evaluating. Is the information that has been generated contextually accurate? o Bias: Be aware of any potential biases in the text. o Language: Does the language generated use proper grammar and spelling? Is the writing clear and concise? Are there any errors or inconsistencies? • Remember: double-check all references AI uses as they may not be 100% accurate. Step 7: Analyse and Develop Position • Form your own opinion on the AI-generated essay. Look specifically at the images that the AI tool uses as examples and analyse and justify if the points are valid. • Consider the following prompts: o What is your academic perspective on the topic? o Is this text reliable? Why/why not? o Is this text accurate? Why/why not? o Is the text high quality? Why/why not? o How do you assess the images it uses as examples? o What are the strengths and weaknesses of the points raised? • Use evidence from the text to support your own opinion. Step 8: Additional Research Support those ideas with evidence from our class readings and your own outside research. • Read the Library Search Tips guide in Cadmus Manual. • Gather relevant sources and materials to support your ideas, including academic journals, books, and credible websites. o Use our class readings and additional resources (Minimum of 4 references). • Take detailed notes on key points and arguments made by the authors of the sources you gather, including main arguments, key concepts, and evidence presented. o Include citations and references in your notes. • Evaluate the credibility and reliability of the sources you gather, considering the author’s expertise, the publication, and the publication date. • Analyse the sources you have gathered, looking for patterns, themes and perspectives that will help support your ideas. Step 9: Write Critique • Building on your analysis, write your Critique AI-Generated Essay. o Remember: point out the strengths and weaknesses of the points raised. • Things to remember while writing: o Clear writing: use short simple sentences and familiar terms. o Accurate writing: present accurate and complete information. o Critical writing: express your academic perspective on the topic. o Citing and referencing: acknowledge each of the texts whenever you reference them. TIP: to avoid plagiarism, you must give credit if you use the work of others (see Referencing section in Cadmus Manual) Step 10: Review • Compare your analysis to the original text to ensure that it accurately conveys your own understanding and interpretation of the material. • Read the Marking Rubric again to check that you have met the criteria. • Carefully proofread and edit your Critique AI-Generated Essay for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. • Check that citations and references match.
